Many fantasy and science fiction stories follow the same pattern, the Hero’s Journey (or Monomyth), outlined by Joseph Campbell, in his “The Hero with a Thousand Faces”. Books, movies, and video games all seem to fall prey to this ubiquitous plot arc, and Anime is no different. One such series, Magic Knight Rayearth, does so quite exactly and even stereotypically.
